Following a shocking upset against De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas defeated University of the East in straight sets, thereby extending the Lady Warriors losing streak at the UAAP womens’ volleyball to 53 games.
EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina led the Tigresses’ domination over the Lady Warriors en route to a 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 win at the start of the second round eliminations.
Laure had 15 points on 14 attacks on a block, while MVP candidate Rondina added 12 markers.
It wasn’t a trouble free ride, however for UST as UE came into life in the second set where the Lady Warriors sprang with an 8-4 run.
UE then knotted the score at 23 before UST snapped out of it and crushed the Lady Warriors’ uprising.
“Iniisip naming lahat na kailangang mag-step up kasi syempre dikit yung score kanina. Kailangan naming Manalo,” said Laure during the post-game interview.
Laure considers their win over UE important as it continued their momentum following their 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 victory over the Lady Spikers at the close of the first round eliminations.
“Naboost ang morale namin at ang momentum namin nag-tuloy tuloy,” she said.
UST improved their record to 4-4, while UE fell to its eighth defeat and 53rd overall since Season 74.
Shaya Adorador paced the Lady Warriors with 9 points.
